Rights and Advocacy
As a member of Elmhurst, Inc. you have a right to be treated with dignity and respect. Also, you have input in your program and will always be given choices of activities and opportunities you would like to try. All programs are offered in the most integrated and least restrictive setting as possible. Your goals and dreams are what we hope to help you achieve.
Everything about you that we gather through talking with you, reports and information from meetings will be kept confidential. You can be assured that only you and your guardian will know things about you that you wish to keep to yourself unless you or someone else is in danger. We will only give information to others about you if we receive written permission from you or your guardian.
If you ever feel that your rights have been violated or you have any concerns about your program, you should report your complaint as soon as possible. You may choose to speak with any staff member you wish. You can even go the Executive Director if you would like to talk with her about your concern. If you are in any danger or your rights are being violated, staff at Elmhurst must report the problem to a State Advocate. You can also contact the Advocate directly if you wish.
